The Spirit of Community 2020
The Spirit of Community 2020 (in collaboration with Plymouth University School of Architecture and funded by the Lottery Heritage Fund), will unite citizens of Plymouth to create, through personal narrative and empathetic creative activities, a combined vision of a compassionate community, based on old-fashioned, and modern-day, community spirit. Over six workshops, from December to May, this vision and its elements will be shared with architecture students who are working on a project to design a more compassionate city. The project will culminate in an exhibition at Ocean Studios and online showcasing the vision via photographs, artwork etc. representing the project and its participants.
We are hoping to create a diverse and united group made up of long-term Plymothians and other citizens who have moved to Plymouth from elsewhere, including migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. This is a mixed-gender project.
The first two workshops will take place on Fridays in Dec and Jan at Devonport Guildhall with four subsequent ones at Plymouth University’s Roland Levinsky Building in Feb, March, April and May.
If particular community groups are interested in being involved in the project, I will also be happy to visit and work with them, collecting stories/thoughts and facilitating activities that can be fed back to the university team as well as inviting group representatives to attend workshops and contribute to the finale event/exhibition.
