About the Role:
Improving Lives Plymouth (formerly The Plymouth Guild) and Citizen Advice Plymouth are working together in a joint contract with Plymouth City Council to provide a joined-up quality information and advice services across Plymouth, known as Advice Plymouth. The service provides Telephone, Drop in and Casework support. As part of the delivery of Advice Plymouth, a team of co-located caseworkers and generalist advisers will provide a range of advice and casework support needed by Advice Plymouth users. They will also provide advice consultancy, and first line information training, to a range of hubs and community workers.

Additional funding has been provided by Plymouth City Council as part of the Emergency Food Grant programme to provide support for the people of the city who are facing the immediate effects of Covid-19, and to help address the future demand for support.

The purpose of the project will be to make pro-active contact with all the relevant food charities and food aid organisations in the City, including those who receive funding through the Emergency Grants programme and other members of the Food Plymouth network, in order to design and promote an easy to access referral pathway for people receiving food aid or experiencing food insecurity.

In addition, the project will work with organisations who make referrals to food banks to ensure that they are aware of the service and to raise awareness of the need for people to receive advice.

Work relating to the Food Poverty Project may be undertaken by any Generalist Adviser as part of the Advice Plymouth contract.
Role purpose 
The role of the Adviser will be to provide an effective and efficient generalist advice service to support service users who come through the referral pathway.

It can sometimes be a challenging role, but you will be fully trained and supported, working as a part of an approachable and supportive team in a rewarding environment to provide the best possible service to people across Plymouth.

You will join a strong, tight team, with a rewarding environment where we are all supported to provide the best possible service to our clients.

You will have the ability to manage and support others during times of crisis and hold personal resilience and able to manage difficult and emotional conversations well. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to effectively communicate with our clients with a non-judgmental approach.

Fixed term contract to 31st March 2023

Citizens Advice Plymouth, Cobourg House, Mayflower Street, Plymouth.
This position will part of our face-to-face advice team and as such will be primarily based at our Cobourg House office in Plymouth.
